Status Report

So Runner is coming along quite nicely, im just waiting on two more character graphics (slide & dash) then i gotta get final art for a “certain feature” i don’t really want to show off until the art is done for it, added a particle system for special effects, a second obstacle (a crate which you break with dash to increase your score multiplier (missing a crate lowers your multiplier back to 1 as does hitting a wall), Got high scores working and made a final decision on distribution. I found out that Indie city allows you to release a game for free, so im only going to release it there, since they offer high score tables, and achievements, plus DLC, DRM, and auto patches, so upon release the only link will be to there.

Also I’ve decided i will add DLC, DLC will consist of things like alternate character skins, tile sets, variations of that (unannounced feature), new power ups, etc, all DLC will cost money but at most will be 1$ probably less. Also as soon as my bank account gets verified, ill be launching a kick starter campaign to raise funds to make all this possible, a bit of funding will make the game just that much better.

So long story short things are going very well, give me a little bit more time, and ill release a new video, were almost to the point where i can launch and official trailer so you can look forward to that. 

In the mean time: thank you for taking the time to read these blogs and follow the progress of this game, it really does mean alot to me, it has long been my dream to release a game to the masses, and this is my first real shot at doing so. So thank you for everything, now get out there and Play Some Games!

Progress

Today I made a Whole Lot of Progress on Runner. Heres a list:

-Fixed the main bug i had where the game ran slower the longer it was played
-Added a BG image
-Added Background Music
-Added the first obstacle (a billboard the player must slide under)
-Fixed another bug we found today
-Made the jumps a little more difficult
-added a countdown so the game doesnt just start
-Added the Highscore table and linked it to the indie city page (I found
out that I can put a game on there for free so im just going to do that
Online Leaderboards for all!)
-Added a small indicator for if your connected to indie city games or not
-Turned off Debug mode and Added a stylized Score display

Not too bad for one day i think, probably another week or so until it enters serious testing then i can post it for certification, then you can all play it! anywho you can view the current build in the video up above.

Update Number 2?

Just another short update, i got the basic physics done, i ran into an issue where if the player hit the side of a building, he would snap to the top of the building, making it impossible to lose, that has been fixed, got basic sliding implemented too, just need to do sliding collision detection and its good to go. After that its time to add obstacles.

So Before i go to bed another update on Runner, I got the Very Basic terrain generation and character control done, right now its all placeholder art, so not much to show yet but ill get there soonish (i hope), but I do expect this project to enter testing phase 1 in probably 2 weeks, Still gotta tweak the controls, add more controls, obstacles, pickups, balance the game, the high score screen, the title screen, game over screen, 3, 2, 1 , go prompt, options menu, splash screens and sound so still got alot to add, heh. But well get there, once its playable and looks almost final ill probably post a beta demo, so hang in there and keep checking back.
