The Track Record

We all come from different places, the difference is not everyone is trying to sell a product to people, so this post is basically who I am and why it matters. Why you should take any interest in my games, and why i make games in the first place, this is a chronicling of my track record.

I was born in a small town called farmland. I cant make this up that was its actual name look it up if you don’t believe me. Farmland Indiana zip code 47340. I was a country boy raised by farmers and hunters, who tried to teach me their trade. Thing is, it never took, I was to busy hunting digital ducks with a bright orange gun to be interested in fishing, or hunting for real.

I was a shut in, didn’t enjoy playing outside much (save for my trampoline), I spent all my time playing video. games. One game in particular however make me realize it could be more than a hobby, that i actually wanted to make games. That title was Final Fantasy 8. I was on the school bus and a kid i knew had a video game magazine, and i caught a glimpse of Ifrit ( a monster from final fantasy 8) At this point in my life the only death I ever saw in games was Goomba’s and Koopa Troopa’s so this demonic image interested me. So I rented it, from that point on I was hooked on RPG’s.

Around this time I found RPG Maker, and thus began my game making journey. I was Obsessed. In High school I wrote an epic rpg trilogy (which i still find to be a fantastic story and  refuse to post it online until i make it finally), I graduated from RPG maker to Game Maker. Then From Game Maker to Dark GDK. and Finally to XNA where i stand now.

I went to college for a  short while but had to drop out due to car troubles, and that was before i even learned anything about games. Everything i know i taught myself, on a 56k modem, and on hardware 5 years too old for what i was trying to do.

I Know alot of people say this, but to me it really is about the games. I Love games, its my passion, Money is not, but it is necessary. All I want to do is make good games for you all to play, I just wanted you all to know that.

Update Number 2?

Just another short update, i got the basic physics done, i ran into an issue where if the player hit the side of a building, he would snap to the top of the building, making it impossible to lose, that has been fixed, got basic sliding implemented too, just need to do sliding collision detection and its good to go. After that its time to add obstacles.

A Moment of poor Judgment

Poor judgment can lead us to do many things, going streaking, dancing while drunk, giving into peer pressure, and releasing really really early screenshots of your in development game, this lack of judgment is the latter. I will now be releasing very early screenshots of the game, just to show where i am in development and what im thinking, once its far enough along ill release video, that said here is the result of 4 hours of coding (not alot at all for those of you who don’t code)

So Before i go to bed another update on Runner, I got the Very Basic terrain generation and character control done, right now its all placeholder art, so not much to show yet but ill get there soonish (i hope), but I do expect this project to enter testing phase 1 in probably 2 weeks, Still gotta tweak the controls, add more controls, obstacles, pickups, balance the game, the high score screen, the title screen, game over screen, 3, 2, 1 , go prompt, options menu, splash screens and sound so still got alot to add, heh. But well get there, once its playable and looks almost final ill probably post a beta demo, so hang in there and keep checking back.

as soon as I get the art added in ill put up some basic screenshots, and tomorrow ill update the project page. Thank you as usual for reading this readers. Now get out there and Game!

Just a update, as I plan on keeping readers as updated as possible, I just got basic terrain generation complete, I just need to plug it into the engine, and run a few tests before i start working on the player.

Decided to do this post a bit sooner than originally stated, and go ahead and reveal the initial project, This will be a learning project with the intention of teaching me more about the process immediately preceding and following the release. The title is called Runner.

If you’ve played Robot unicorn attack on Adult Swim or Facebook you know exactly what kind of game this in, the main exciting thing will be its going to be FREE!, within the week ill post more in depth info via blog post & the Current project page at the top. Hopefully a fair amount of people play it and give me some basic feedback, thanks for reading this everybody!

The title is misleading, it should Read Hello AGAIN inter webs. This is not my first time attempting to make a blog, but hopefully it will be the last. If you are not aware, this blog is written with the express intent to textualize (is that even a word?) my game design process. This blog will server to further expand upon my Twitter (@gamesC3). I like to keep this introductory blog short and sweet, but in the next couple of days (for the two of you who are reading this) expect to see a small update on the game i just started working on (im expecting a short dev time). Also from time to time you can expect game reviews (kind of rare) and Hardware Reviews (very rare). So In the mean time, go out and play some games people! (maybe skyrim?)
